The Comet is a mechanized all-positional MIG welding system. The Comet runs off a precision engineered band which is specific to the project and parent material. By using a solid sizing beam on the chassis of the Comet – the Comet is fixed in position. This allows for the Comet to run on pipe from as small as 6” in diameter, up to flat plate up to internal welding on large diameter pipes by only changing the sizing beam which is held in position by four screws. After the travel band and sizing beam are installed; one can set up to 10 programmes (sets of parameters) in the Comet. Should any parameters be likely to come up again on future projects they can be stored on a computer using the Handset databasing tool. With the innovative addition of being able to set an angle where the programme will automatically change, using the Comet for welding root to cap has never been so easy. By using flux-cored wire for the filling and capping, deposition rates can be over 300% greater than traditional cellulose stick welding.
